Level 3: Data Validation with Real-Time Warning in Salesforce SIS

Posted in

In our previous blogs, the introduction, level 1 method and level 2 method we discussed the ways to reduce data errors for compliance reporting. In this blog, we will walk through the 3rd level method – Real-time warning/error.

Warnings or errors can assist users by throwing “early” alerts on any detected data inconsistencies. This will buy users some time to fix them before submitting reports.

The warnings can be both hard or soft types:

  1. Hard Warnings (Error) – This type of warning will prevent users from committing (saving) the record without fulfilling the requirements. For example, “Gender” should not be left empty. So, when a user tries to save a student record without the “Gender” selected, an error will be prompted.

  2. Soft Warnings – Users can still create the record, however, a list of warnings will be created against the record (if there are any violations of the rules). Users can review the warnings and fix the issues accordingly. As an example, the “Email” should not be left empty. So, when a user tries to save a student record without an email, a warning will be created. Once the email is populated, the warning will be omitted.
